Beijing Foot Spa

a MUST-TRY foot spa!

I love the feeling of being in a spa. When you step inside, you're already relaxing with every breath that you take.

For those of you who have been to Wensha Spa in Manila, there is another alternative if you are from the north. You can visit Beijing Foor Spa at Silver City (The building of Starbucks near Tiendesitas).

Being spa addicts, we always wanted to try this place. They offer just foot and back massages. The rates are the following:

Foot Massage - Php 500.00 for 70 minutes (this includes head, hand and shoulder massages)

Back Massage - Php 350.00 for 30 minutes

Foot and Back Massage - Php 850.00 for 1 hour and 40 minutes

They also have a promo that when you visit and schedule a session from Monday to Friday from 1:00 - 5:00 PM, you get 20% off. It's a pity that we have work during those days.

Can you imagine having a 1 hour and 40 minute massage! EJ and I tried the Foot Massage. This was for 70 minutes. When we entered the spa, we were asked to wait for just a few minutes. After a while, a lady came and guided us to a room full off lazy boy type chairs with mini televisions (just like the ones at Wensha Spa). That time, we had the room to ourselves. The room had around 10 chairs. EJ and I turned off the TVs we had. We were so tired and just wanted to relax.

The ladies who were to do our massages came in with a bucket of warm water where we had to soak our feet. They gave us the head, hand and shoulder massages while our feet were soaked. After which, they took out the pails of water and gave us two weird feeling hot packs. One was placed at the back of our necks, and the other was placed in our lower back. The one at my back felt good but the one at the back of my neck felt a little uncomfortable. You can take it out though if you feel uncomfortable.

Our foot massage started. It was really good. The ladies were trained well. If they claim that they have chinese trained therapists, well, that Chinese was a good teacher. I practically fell asleep, and so did EJ.

When we woke up, it was around 1 hour and 30 minutes after, more than the 70 minutes promised! This was really worth our time. I would recommend this to everyone who reads this review. I already started recommending it to my family.

Conned! Yahoo Messenger Scam

This post may be a bit different from the posts here in the blog but I do feel that this is still in keeping with our purpose of informing people about what's out there in our fair city (or the world wide web as this case may be). I promised to blog about what happened to me and my husband to warn everyone of the current modus operandi of hackers using Yahoo Messenger (YM).

Just this Tuesday, my husband was scammed by a hacker posing as his cousin via YM. His "cousin" asked for 50 pcs of 500 peso Globe Prepaid Cards. My hubby did not think too much of this request since he helped his cousin with her wedding planning this year. He paid for and contacted suppliers for her wedding here in Manila as she was based in the US. He thought that this was just one of those requests. His "cousin" said that she will be selling the cards to friends in the US and will give my husband his money back with a small profit. With the help of another cousin, my husband bought the cards scratched the numbers and encoded them in excel.

As he was doing that, I was on facebook and my hubby's cousin has just updated her status saying that her YM account was hacked and that the person responsible is asking for Php 25,000 load. Apparently my husband was not the only cousin the hacker was hoping to fool that day. I told my hubby about this and it's only then that everything made sense to him. He then started asking personal questions that only his real cousin knew about. The hacker would log in and then log off, blaming his/her internet connection. In short the hacker never answered any of the questions.

My husband lost Php 500 that day but he could have lost a lot more, Php25,000 more to be exact. Facebook saved the day whereas YM failed.

We finally got to chat with the real cousin who promptly changed her account, her username and password. When she buzzed my husband she told him of a childhood prank they played on their neighbor involving a very large jackfruit as proof of ID. My hubby knew right away that his cousin was the real deal.

How was the real cousin's account hacked you may ask? She remembered that she was once buzzed by a friend who was based in Dubai. The friend gave her a link, asking her to check "kung ok ba webcam nya". Our cousin clicked the link and it took her to a site which she said most likely phished her account details. The hacker now had access to our cousin's profile and email addresses which the hacker could use for his/her scheme. The hacker also had access to emails, information from which he could use to strike up a conversation with the victim.

If you have YM and you've received messages about acai berry supplements and some other weird stuff, don't click the link. The link would either be a phishing site or a virus-laden website.

So we're now left with a lotta load to spare. We've alerted our officemates about this so that they'd be forewarned. Now, I'm blogging about this so that you'd also be alerted to this modus operandi.

It's very easy to let your guard down now given the many messaging sytems out there. But, like I've told my husband, there will always be scam artists out there no matter the time and medium.

Earle's Delicatessen

The best sandwiches ever!




Ginger introduced me to Earle's Delicatessen recently, at their Wynsum Building branch (Ortigas). It's a stone's throw away from Strata 100, where we practice yoga, so it's very convenient.

I'll just get to the point -- they serve the best sandwiches. I have, so far, tried 3 flavors:

Meat Trio Sandwich

I ordered this on French Bread. The sandwiches are served cold which is perfect for the meat. The 3 kinds of meat complement each other (I'll look for the 3 kinds and update this post) really well. What pleases me the most though is how much meat there is in the sandwich. I mean, just look at that picture! This one does not disappoint and is sure to make for a heavy dinner.

Smoked Chicken Sandwich

Ginger ordered this one on Wheat Bread. This is Ginger's favorite sandwich. Again, the amount of meat does not disappoint. The meat is just the right amount of salty and, like the meat, the veggies are generously heaped on. I'm pretty sure the next time we're here, Ginger will order this again.

Capicollo Sandwich

This one is just full of capicollo ham. A slightly spicy ham that lends itself well to the tomatoes and pickles they include in the sandwich. Another really good sandwich!

We've been there a lot of times and we have NEVER been disappointed. The staff is nice and the place is very clean. The BEST thing about everything is how much these sandwiches cost -- they cost around P120 per sandwich. Yup, those huge sandwiches full of tasty tasty meat above are priced very very reasonably.

We're sure to come back again here really soon. I highly recommend this establishment.
