McDONALD's NEW SUNDAES
A hot day... Happy but weird colleagues...McDonald's two new sundaes... the perfect combination for a great, relaxing lunch.
So today, I shared the news to two of my officemates and we rushed to McDonald's in Ortigas. We got to order both flavors.
The sundaes were vanilla flavored which had
either blueberry or the strawberry syrup in between two layers. When I told my friends about it, I mentioned that I thought it had almond slices or muesli bits. Well, it looked like that in the lighted panel. Unfortunately, it was topped not by almonds, but by bits of chocolate wafer sticks. When I asked my friend, Reena, what she thought of it, she pushingly mentioned that I quote her in this review "I don't like it... I LOVE IT!". The Strawberry sundae was sweeter than the Blueberry sundae, but both were delicious.
This is a simple yet delicious dessert that you should try. You might love it, too!

Angel's Pizza Pasta Combo
Thank God it's Friday! I love Fridays since you can just lounge around and lie on your bed and have DVD marathons while munching FOOD! We love blogging not only about the finest restaurants in town, but also the ordinary food stalls or restaurants in the metropolis. We believe that this would help polarize competition, pushing these restaurants to improve, and help make the whole 'food scene' much better.
Anyway, speaking of perfect lazy Fridays - nothing says lazy like getting delivery instead of cooking. And pizza has been the staple of delivery. Which pizza? Today, we recommend you try out Angel's.
Angel's Pizza offers original hand tossed pizza in 10 flavors, Angel's thin or thin crust pizza in 2 flavors and their best seller, the Angel's Double in 3 variants.
For the Angel's thin (Big Family Size at Php 515), we tried the Shrimp Pesto flavor. It was simply made of a thin crust topped with cheese, pesto and shrimps. A nice thing about this pizza is that the shrimps were generously spread across the whole pizza.
For the original hand tossed pizza (which comes in three sizes: Medium, Family and Big Family), we tried the Extra Feast, which was made out of different veggies and meat - similar to other pizza chain's "supreme" pizza. I suggest that you order either the Cheesy Burger, which was made out of little burger rolls on top of cheese or the Spicy Tuna, which was composed of mushroom, onion and spicy tuna. The big family size costs around Php 399 - Php 555 depending on the flavor.
1. Extra Feast, 2. Cheesy Burger, 3. Spicy Tuna
Our favorite was the Angel's Double. Angel's Double "replicates" stuffed pizza. We tried the Cheesy Melt. It had a lower thin crust topped with pepperoni slices. It was then covered by another (softer) crust smothered in cheese. Other variants are BBQ and Cheesy Burger. When I bet into the pizza, the cheese came oozing out... sarap! All come in one size (Big Family) at 599.
1. Cheesy Melt, 2. The Whole PizzangelsPizza, 3. Oozing Cheese, 4. The Layers
For those who feel like it's not a meal without rice (you know who you are), the also offer combo meals: 1/2 pcs. of chicken with rice, 1 pc. chicken with any choice of pasta or 1 pc. pork chop and rice. The pork chop was deep fried making it really crunchy.
1. 1pc chicken w/ Al Tonno, 2. Pork Chop/Liempo
For the pasta choices, they have arriabiata, tuna, carbonara, chorizo, pesto or classic spaghetti. Each flavor is sold at Php 179 each except for the Classic Spaghetti at Php 139.
We ordered the three available desserts that they have, the brownies, carrot loaf and pudding with vanilla. I love the brownies. The outer layer was crunchy but when you bite on it, the inner part was so soft. They give you a chocolate dip but even without the dip, it's delicious.
If you need to have food delivered for meetings to serve a lot of hungry people, or looking for a new place for that friday lunch out, or even if it's just you craving for something to munch on especially on a Friday night like this, we recommend Angel's Pizza Pasta Combo.

Bigoli
I miss Fazolis. I used to eat there when I frequented the gym in Eastwood, but ever since I started working in Ortigas, I hardly get to eat there anymore. So it was a pleasant surprise for me to have bumped into this Italian Fastfood restaurant in Trinoma. They say that this restaurant was opened last mid-2008.
Bigoli has the ambiance of Fazolis. The food even tastes the same. I wonder if they have the same owners? On the menu were the usual Italian choices of Pizza and Pasta. They also had garlic breadsticks that they gave to the customers as an appetizer while waiting for the food.
1. Bigoli's Supremo, 2. Cheese Overload
We ordered a slice of Cheese Overload (Php 65) and Bigoli's Supremo (Php 90). We were actually disappointed not to see any Margherita Pizza on their menu. Both pizza slices were on a thin crust. It was nothing exemplary. The Bigoli's Supremo was topped with pepperoni slices, veggies, etc. It tasted similar to Pizza Hut's Super Supreme but on a thinner crust.
The Italian Chicken was good though. It was breaded deep fried chicken with crispy and crunchy skin topped with Italian tomato sauce with Rosemary spices. The chicken can be served with rice at Php 130, Marinara at Php 150, Al Pesto at Php 170 and Fetuccini Carbonara at Php 170. I ordered it with the Pesto pasta. The pasta was al dente with just the right amount of pesto sauce. It was a good complement for the Italian Chicken with strong flavors of spices, since the Pesto pasta's taste was subtle.
We also ordered the Bacon Stromboli at Php 120. These are small maki-like rolls of bread with tomato sauce and bacon inserted inside. It came with a small bowl of creamy Marinara sauce. At first, when I saw the dip, I thought that it wouldn't go well with the stromboli, but when I tried it, it was just the right flavor to go with the rolls. The taste of the sauce had just the right amount of flavor to still have one focus on the taste of the stromboli. The bacon, though, was hardly noticeable. I think they should add more bacon to the bacon stromboli.
The place was not clean though. The floor wasn't clean so my chair kept on sliding away from the table. It was so hard to keep still. Service-wise, the waiters were attentive enough. I also noticed that the waiter/server was also the one mopping the floors. I think the service would have been better (and more hygienic?) if they hired a dedicated 'cleaner' for the store.
So if by chance you happen to pass by for merienda, try out their chicken. Nothing exemplary but it's a filling meal nonetheless that's light on the wallet.

Stick House - The best way to beat the heat
It's so hot! On our search for something cold to eat or drink at Trinoma, we stumbled on a new discovery -- Stick House.
Stick House offers gelato on sticks! It looks like the typical drumstick or popsicle stick, but you get to choose toppings & dips - it's customized! I love customized desserts!
For the base ice cream, you can choose from Premium, Regular or Sorbet Flavors. Under Premium, they have Coffee (Php 80). Under Regular (Php 70), they have Milk Cream, Chocolate and Gianduia and under Sorbet (Php 60), they have Mango and Strawberry.
They offer toppings to be placed on the ice cream stick. These were the available toppings: Almonds, Hazelnut, Coffee and Pistaccio. All were at Php 25 per full topping except for Pistaccio at Php 40 for full topping. They also have chocolate dip available at Php 35 for a full topping. For the toppings and the dip, there was a choice of 'Half' or 'Full'. My first question was what was with the choice of 'half and full' and second and more importantly, how will they be able to place the toppings on top of an ice cream bar?
Ej ordered a chocolate based bar with almonds on top. I ordered a milk cream base with half chocolate dip and half almonds. The lady got the ice cream base popsicle and placed it on a tray of almonds.
She then wore gloves and pressed fistful of almonds into the ice cream base. Ang dami!!! So, that was how it was done!
For my half order, she dipped half of my ice cream bar into the chocolate dip. The dip is the typical chocolate dip that hardens in contact with cold ice cream. She then proceeded to take handfuls of almonds and made sure that I couldn't see my popsicle underneath the thick layer of almonds.
The gelato itself was rich and creamy! You will really be able to notice the difference between this gelato and ordinary ice cream. And the toppings are generously placed on your order.
It's the type of dessert that you will crave for! I know I'll be coming back to try the other flavors.

Figaro's New Dishes
I'm addicted to coffee, but that doesn't mean that coffee is the only thing I look for when I go to a cafe. Oftentimes, during office lunches, we would scout good food and transfer to nearby coffee shops after. But we came across new offerings at Figaro that would make us have good food and great coffee in one place.
The New A la Carte
1. Chicken ala Kiev, 2. Dory Provencal, 3. Tuscan Chicken
They have four new offerings at Figaro for their 'a la carte' dishes. They have the Chicken a la Kiev (Php 299), Breaded Dory (Php 299), Dory Provencal (Php 199) and the Tuscan Chicken (Php 199). The first two dishes comes with salad and potato fries. The Dory Provencal and the Tuscan Chicken comes with a pasta of your choice (Arrabbiata, Al Tonno, Carbonara, Classic Chorizo and Pesto) and salad. All dishes come with a choice of 12oz. Iced Tea or 12oz. Iced Coffee.
1. AL Tonno, 2. Carbonara, 3. Classic Chorizo, 4. Pesto
I would recommend that you try the Dory Provencal or the Tuscan Chicken. The dory is pan-fried, with a crispy outer layering and a fresh, packed inside that will surely make you full even if it's 'just fish' for some. I love the Provencal sauce. It gave the fish (and the Tuscan Chicken) a unique and 'to-crave' for taste.
The salad, made out of greens, carrots, red bell pepper with a tangy, lemony sauce is a good compliment to any of the dishes. For the pasta, my favorite is the Al Tonno. It is actually their Pesto Pasta combined with spicy tuna. The tuna adds more flavor to the pasta. You can also try their Classic Chorizo or the Arrabiata. It will also go well with the Breaded Dory and the Chicken a la Kiev.
New Drinks
1. Raspberry Chai Tea Swizzle, 2. Cinnamon Chai Latte
It's a known fact that the coffee in Figaro is good and an added fact is that it's Philippine made coffee. So for this visit, I tried their new drinks. Their new drinks had Chai as the main ingredient. Chai is merely the same word for tea in Hindi, Punjabi and many other languages around the world. For many countries such as the US, they refer to "chai" (which is actually again 'tea') as a tea mixed with herbs and spices. In India, this is called 'Masala Chai' (spiced tea).
I tried the Raspberry Chai Swizzle (for EJ) and the hot Cinnamon Chai Latte.
The Rasperry Chai Tea Swizzle (Php 135) had rasberry puree at the bottom of the drink, then of course the Chai Tea with milk on top of it. You have to mix the drink very well so that the puree mixes well with the tea. I just wished that they lessen the puree just a tad bit because it was too sweet.
For the Cinnamon Chai Tea (Php 110), it was a bit sweet also, but I know that i'll be coming back for this. I regretted ordering just a small cup. I loved that the flavor of the Chai blended well with cinnamon. It was a good idea to have that twist added to the tea.
All Day Breakfast
1. Corned Beef, 2. Pork Longganisa, 3. Gourmet Crispy Tuyo
Figaro offers four choices of breakfast meals (Php 175 per meal) served with garlic rice and a sunny side egg. They have corned beef, pork longganisa, and gourmet crispy tuyo. Do try the tuyo and the pork longganisa. The tuyo was my favorite: the flakes were not too salty, crispy, and flavorful. The longganisa was coated with sugar so it was a little bit sweet - which when paired with vinegar is perfect. Delicious!
Desserts
1. Mediterranean Strawberry Cheese Cake, 2. Dark Chocolate Rasberry Symphony, 3. Mocha Espresso Praline
Also, do try their desserts. We ordered the Mediterranean Strawberry Cheese Cake (Php 125), Dark Chocolate Rasberry Symphony (Php 120), and the Mocha Espresso Praline (Php 120). The Mediterranean Strawberry Cheese Cake was a bit too sweet for me, the Dark Chocolate Rasberry Symphony was a nice blend of bitter dark choco and sweet/sour raspberry. My favorite was the Mocha Espresso Praline: I don't like mocha per se but this dish really did appeal to me. It went well with my Cinnamon Chai.
So if there's a Figaro nearby, I highly suggest that you do drop by and try these delectable dishes and new yummy drinks - coffee, tea, meals, and dessert at its finest!

Cajun Red Rock
I love Megamall particularly because they now have WIFI. So this is a 'Live' blogging session: I'm typing while eating (and my husband is begging me to turn off the PC).
We are now eating at Cajun Red Rock. This is the same restaurant that was at the ground floor of Megamall B, near Seattle's Best. They transferred to the third floor Megamall, Atrium, right across Racks.
The restaurant supposedly has a New Orleans theme. The place didn't look it though. When we asked the waiter for what the Best Seller was, we were expecting Gumbo, but he recommended the ribs. The blurb didn't say they were the best sellers though so we took the advice of the menu instead -- the Must Try section.
Ej ordered the Chicken Alfred with Corn and Cajun Saffron Rice (you get to choose 2 side dishes -- P210.00). The chicken was deep fried, breaded chicken. It was covered under white 'Alfred' sauce. It was pretty delicious though it tasted distinctly, surprisingly like KFC's original recipe. The sauce was a good match for the fried chicken breast. The rice was good. It went well with the chicken.
I ordered one of the Volcano Burgers: the Crisp Parmesan Dory Fish (P285.00). Yum yum! I highly recommend that you, especially the cheese lovers out there, try this dish. The burger was practically swimming in cheese. The bread was soft bread with a hole in the middle. The bread had a top layer also made of cheese. The Dory patty was cooked just right and came with mozzarella cheese and mushrooms. The plate also had fries and three sticks of deep fried onion. Presentation was good. The burger seemed like a volcano spewing cheese and fried onion sticks!
The service is great! The waiters were cheerful and pretty attentive. I do wish they could have had a bit more training on what's good on the menu.
The place was well kept although the space was a bit small. To compensate, they had booths and tables outside.
You might be planning to go to Megamall today. If you are, I suggest you try out the volcano burgers! They're not on the Must Try section but you definitely MUST TRY them!

Curry Curry House
Have you ever tried a Japanese - Styled Curry dish? Then, you must not have eaten at Curry Curry House!
We are a fan of spicy and curry-style food. But of course, we could not imagine that a particular restaurant can have several variants of curry dishes. We're used to the usual -- chicken curry, pork curry, lamb curry -- so we were interested to see the menu at Curry Curry House. The variety did not disappoint: they had at least more than ten curry dishes. They had Tori Chicken Curry, Crispy US Beef Curry, and Salmon Teriyaki Curry. Price range for these dishes ranged from P170 to P250. All these types of curry dishes can come in Super Bento Boxes at P295.
Of course, we tried the Super Bento Box. We ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Curry and the US Beef Teriyaki Curry. The Super Bento Box came with Miso Soup, Salad, a block of Tofu, 2 thin slices of Orange and Iced Tea.
Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box
US Beef Teriyaki Bento Box
We both loved the Miso Soup. It was a good starter for warming the tummy before the main course. The side salad was unforgetful. The sauce was what the waiter called 'Kojihau sauce'. The salad was actually just a mixture of basic vegetables but the sauce was the brilliant addition. The tofu was okay; not that exemplary.
The chicken and the beef were both breaded and fried. Both were then topped with Teriyaki sauce. The palm sized meats were placed on top of thick curry sauce. The treatment was pretty much the same for both the chicken & beef. The customer has a choice of either hot, mild or a non-spicy curry sauce. I chose the mildly spicy sauce, EJ got the hot sauce.
The chicken was delicious, but doesn't really stand out from the other chicken teriyaki I've tasted. EJ said the same thing about the US Beef -- not that much different from your normal beef teriyaki.
It was, nonetheless, delicious and filling. One order of the Super Bento Box can last you until dinner. For those who like spicy food, this is a restaurant that you can keep coming back to.
They also offer other dishes. They have the normal Japanese dishes in the menu, from Teriyaki to Teppanyaki. In my next visit, I would probably try the Hausu Angus Burger. They also have Omu Rice (Japanese Rice Omelette), and Ramen.
Expect to pay around Php 200 to Php 350 for your visit. We find the restaurant a little bit expensive though. They could have priced it a little lower, probably around the Php 200 range only.
The service was also very good. The waiters were attentive. The place was very clean, as well. Located in the new wing of Megamall, it's in the far right corner of the third floor.
I would come back since this is the only restaurant in town with this kind of fusion.
